The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Androgyny

This soft featured young boy(?) on a cabinet card from the Anschutz studio of Keokuk, Iowa is adorned with a delicate collar over his waistcoat. His hair is highly coiffed in an attempt to render him as a semi-aristocrat, unscathed by the normal rough and tumble lifestyle of young boys. The styling which would be more typically feminine, at least by today's standards, gives this youth an air of androgyny, especially in light of the disproportionately large feet and hands which foretell the blossoming of male adolescence.
